| These papers usually have much
less size on the surface to allow absorption of the ink
but are internally sized to give strength (especially
when dampened). Rag papers, because of their longer fibres,
are particularly good for intaglio work where the paper
is put under a lot of stress during printing. We now have
an increasing choice of smaller papers for computer printing
of artwork. |

This is an English rag printmaking paper available in a huge
range of weights, size and colour and now also in coated form
for ink jet printing. We stock only a few but can obtain any
of the others at short notice. Somerset is very versatile with
a type suitable for most printmaking techniques. We always have
stock of white textured and satin, warm white and black. Made
as a printmaking paper, Somerset is superb for pastel and charcoal
drawing because of its long hairy cotton fibres which hold generous
amounts of pastel. |

Zerkall 7625 is one paper from a huge range made by a German
mill. We keep this one because of its suitability for wood engraving
and other relief printing. It is 145g, light enough for hand
printing, unsized so it accepts and enhances the ink and with
a smooth surface which gives good reproduction of fine detail.
It is part cotton, deckle edged and acidfree.
