| Oil pastels are often under-rated
by people who confuse them with wax crayons. A good quality
oil pastel is a combination of artists’ pigment
and a wax medium giving a drawing material with more in
common with oil paint than a soft pastel. You can work
layer upon layer, blend or scrape through and even work
into the pastel with white spirit. Oil pastel never properly
dries but oil pastel varnish will help to stabilise it. |

La crème de la crème of oil pastels allegedly
used by Picasso, definitely used by me. Made in France with
pure pigments Sennelier oil pastels are smooth, soft and creamy
– a truly sensuous drawing experience. They are not uniform
in softness, each pigment having its own characteristics and
some become sticky if left in the sun. |
