It wasn’t always like
this! When we first opened our doors in 1985 Shoreditch,
as we called it then, was the forgotten centre of the
furniture and shoe making trade and the playground of
criminals, the National Front and other East End villains.
Still, the derelict warehouses made good studios for artists
and the wealthy had not yet moved in so space was still
affordable.
We were at 93 Kingsland Road then in a little L-shaped
shop formerly “The Model Arms”.
We moved 3 doors along in 1996 and luxuriated in all the
extra space for a few months until we had filled it all
up with new stock. |
